Week of Feb. 13th

Love was in the air this past week in kindergarten!  We had so much fun at our Valentine's Day party!  Thank you to all of the parents for making the party a success!

During science this past week, we finished learning about what makes things living or nonliving.  Students have learned that living things eat food, drink water, breathe, move on their own, grow and reproduce.  Nonliving things do not.  We will continue our learning in science by focusing on what living things (plants and animals) need to survive.  In social studies, we will learn on Tuesday what Presidents' Day is and why we celebrate this holiday.  We will also begin learning about landforms.  We will integrate social studies into language arts this next week by reading expository text about various landforms.  During math, we will discuss numbers that are one more or one less than teen numbers.  The students will become more familiar with the terms "before" and "after" and understand which numbers are before and after a particular number.

A note/schedule will go home in the Tuesday folder this week about Read Across America Week (Feb. 27-March 3rd).  We will have fun theme days for the students to participate in and we will engage in fun activities and read great Dr. Seuss books on Thursday, March 2nd, which is Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Day.

The Monkeys had a great week and were excited to learn about our Superstar student, Miles!

We learned all about Miles and his life and interests!  Our next superstar student will be announced next Friday afternoon.
